Shortness of breath – from emphysema, COPD, asthma, or other chronic respiratory disorders or surgeries of the lung – can make everyday activities like walking or climbing stairs become anxiety-provoking and challenging. Our Fairmont Care Pulmonary Rehabilitation team is here to help you learn to breathe and function at the highest possible level.
Spearheaded by a respiratory therapist and supervised by our on-staff pulmonologist, your rehabilitation team will work right along with you to design an exercise program so you can progress at your own pace. Your oxygen level, heart rate and blood pressure will be consistently monitored so you can consistently feeling safe and confident.
Your exercise will be backed by education and support, to introduce you to effective breathing and relaxation techniques and ways to perform everyday tasks without exerting yourself unnecessarily.
Rehabilitation doesn’t replace medical therapy. Instead, it’s used in conjunction with medical therapy and may include:
- Exercise training
- Nutritional counseling
- Education on your lung disease or condition and how to manage it
- Energy-conserving techniques
- Breathing strategies
- Psychological counseling and/or group support
